Hayward S166T Pro Series 16-Inch Top-Mount Sand Filter with Top-Mount Valve Review

I bought this filter around June 1 to replace another old sand filter. Because I was out of town for awhile I could not install this filter right away and it was about 2 weeks after it arrived I opened the box. This filter does NOT contain a base for the filter to sit on. Because the filter has a round bottom it can't stand on it's own without a base which should have been included in the box. Ever try to stand up an egg on it's end?

The manual in the box for the filter and the manual online at Haywards internet site for the same model numbers are not the same. There seams to be a production change with this filter and the base so that the base can be used on other models as well. Either way I was in the pool business for 7 years in the past and have never seen a filter that did not contain a base that sets it upright. A base for the filter is NOT an extra item. They are either already attached by glue/tape or have someway to mount the base to the filter. Without a base this filter is usless as you can't simply bury it in the ground. At current I'm trying to get a base from Hayward but they don't seem to want to help and there reply to my email was this... "The larger base only comes with the S166T92S system". Well as I replied back I'm not talking about a "Bigger" base. I'm talking about "ANY" base. So beware that the unit I received did NOT contain a base stand (also called a skirt) for the filter to sit on and my local pool place wanted $49.99 for the base which should have been included.

Pentair GW9500 Kreepy Krauly Great White Automatic Pool Cleaner for In-Ground Pools, Grey/Black Review

I bought this after my Hayward Navigator died, mainly because it cost half as much and it was the least expensive in-ground cleaner that people seem to be happy with from what I can see on the Internet.After using it I found that it is really a great cleaner.It seems to be especially resistant to jamming compared to the Navigator, which would get small pebbles or twigs caught in it's turbine.

It comes with some nice translucent hose sections which seem more flexible than what I get a the pool store.It also has an adapter for a dedicated cleaner port (if you have one) a telepole attachment so that it can be used manually and a flow gauge.

It does clean the shallow end of my pool and seems especially good at scrubbing the walls.It does occasionally get stuck on the pool light (of all places)

The manual does not say that it is not designed to clean the shallow end.It does say that it will spend most of it's time is the deep end, but that is normal for non-robotic cleaners.

I wouldn't trade it for a new Navigator even though they cost twice as much.

Kem-Tek 430-6 4-Way Test Strips Pool and Spa Accessories Review

I've tried the other brands offered on Amazon and other places and I think Chem Lab is the best because there is more of a color change between acceptable and not acceptable for PH and bromine levels. That means the test is easier to read and more definitive.

Had a 2 1/2 horse power pump from Rec. Warehouse would only put out 10-12 psi and was very noise. Installedthis Hayward SP1580X15 Power-Flo LX Series Pump 1-1/2 Horse Power. Putting out 15psi and very little noise from pump. Only draw back is it only has one speed HIGH. Getting ready to open pool up next week. Time will tell how well it works. I believe for the money you can not beat it, Rec. Warehouse wanted over $300. The pressure coming out of the return hose is great. Hope this helps you!

Intex Easy Set 15-Foot-by-42-Inch Round Pool Set Review

This is not really a swimming pool, but an overgrown splash pool.But, if you have young kids, hot weather, and don't have many, many thousands of dollars laying around to invest in a real swimming pool, It seems like a promisingly cool toy to have; however, with all the maintenance this thing has been, I'm still waiting for the "fun" part to kick in...
Can I give it zero stars for "how much trouble is this toy?"
Mine is the 15' diameter by (nominal) 42" depth, and came in a set with ladder, cover, ground cloth, pump with two filter cartridges, and skimmer/vacuum set.
THE BAD:
WARNING 1:You have read this warning in other reviews, but it cannot be repeated often enough...YOU MUST HAVE FIRM, LEVEL GROUND.We have operated this toy for only two months now, and have had to drain, dig and/or backfill the ground, and refill three times already.With just two or three inches "off level" across the 15' width of the toy, this large "bag of water" slowly, inevitably, "crept" in the direction of the low spot, eventually sagging and spilling over on that side.You can simulate the effect by filling a zip-lock bag with water, carefully setting on a tray, then slowly tilting the tray.Be warned!!!
WARNING 2:The filter pump is a joke.It has NO POWER.You could run it 24/7, but you will STILL be vacuuming 3 TIMES DAILY to pick up the grass, soil and other detritus from the bottom, and skimming CONSTANTLY.When you do vacuum, you will have to stop 5 or 6 times per session to dismantle the hosing and clean out all the gunk from the "pinch points" that seem specifically designed to clog up.Each time you undo the hoses, half the gunk you just vaccumed will spew back into the water.Also, you'd think they could put an extra foot or two on the vacuum hose, so that you could actually REACH the opposite side of the toy (the floor on that side is pretty much permanantly dirty).Finally, you'd better pray you got all the creases and folds out when you set up, or else your vacuuming will be quite frustrating.
WARNING 3:Use a tarp of some kind as a ground cloth, and consider it disposable.We set this up on our lawn...and after only about one week we had to drain and refill (see above).In that short time, the area under the tarp became unspeakably filthy, slimy, smelly...something like sewage sludge.You do NOT want such gunk touching the bottom of the pool itself, nor do you want to try to recycle the tarp.Get a new tarp each time you re-set the pool.Also, use some kind of stakes (like those green ones for landscape fabric) to hold down your tarp...it makes unfurling and spreading out the toy much easier!
WARNING 4:As others have stated, this toy comes with NO chemicals or test kit items.These are, of course, essential.How much would it have cost for them to throw in a few test strips, a rip-top packet of algaecide and a small bag of stabilized chlorine shock, just to get the newbie started?
THE GOOD:
DURABILITY:This toy has already endured three take-down/set-ups, and almost constant use by up to six kids at a time...not to mention two dogs who want to get at that previously mentioned smelly area underneath by pawing at the ground right where it meets the vinyl, AND those same kids using the filled pool as a backstop for hardball pitching practice...without bursting a seam.I am mightily impressed by this, as I frankly didn't expect this contraption to hold water in the first place.
EDUCATIONAL:This toy has really helped boost my childrens' confidence in the water.Heck, they've even had some fun...of course, they don't have to maintain the thing...
IN SUMMARY:
Your kids will love this toy and will love you for buying it.You will love it for the first week or two, but will quickly grow to hate the sight of the thing (unless you really like to do extra, unrewarding work around the house on a daily basis using inadequate tools...but hey, who doesn't!).

Intex Easy Set 12-Foot Round Pool Cover Review

We've been very happy with the pool cover that we ordered. It fit the pool we have like a glove and has held up so far. It has gotten a bit bleached out color-wise, but that's just from the sun and pool chemicals and doesn't affect the functionality of the cover.
One great thing about it is that it has small holes pre-cut in the cover itself to allow water to pass through. So, when it rains you don't end up with a bunch of water standing on your pool cover.
Overall, we're very happy with it and will continue to buy Intex products.

We have had three of theseINTEX Easy Set Up pools in the past five years. For safety reasons we decided to start with the small one and just last year our son was tall enough to move on to this great big wonder of a pool. We love it!!! It is true that it is not easy to set up but a nice BBQ and some pina coladas will surely bring in the help needed. All you really need is a little air pump to start the set up. It is heavy and it will not fill in a couple of hours so forget that; but after it is laid out you are all set...the pool appears the next morning, like magic! there are no complicated floor plans, no weird poles and there is just no way you can get it wrong. BUT, remember that you want to put the hoses away from the normal walking traffic path...it can be a serious safety issue with kids tripping or you might just mow the cord down while doing the grass. Keep this in mind if you decide to skip the set up video; most men don't "need to watch the video", HaHaHa! This pool is a really great investment. If you have a small yard, it is a keeper. You take the water out in the fall, leave it in place covered by a tarp and set up the trampoline right over it for fall fun. It is worth the heavy lifting and every penny.... your

Hayward 900 Wanda the Whale Above Ground Automatic Pool Cleaner Review

I have a fiberglass pool, so cleaners designed for vinyl bottoms really work better for me than those for "cement ponds." And the price was right.

However, this item is in the "Toys" category and that is TERRIBLE. This pool cleaner works off of the vacuum created by your pool pump/filter. The cleaner is made more efficient by the use of two venturi intakes (the smallest one is removable). With only about a half-square-inch intake, the suction on the bottom of this cleaner is ferocious. And instead of Wanda the Whale, they should have dubbed it Sarah the Shark.

DO NOT let children into the pool when this device is operating - or simple-minded adults for that matter. Get a toe stuck in the intake when Wanda runs over your foot and you might find yourself pulling it out of the filter before heading to the ER to see if they can re-attach it. And God help the curious adolescent boy who has the pool to himself....

Hayward is quite clear about the dangers of this product and the narrow operating environment, but making the thing cute and cuddly and allowing it to be categorized as a toy seems to be a massive product liability exposure.

Warnings aside, this is a great auto pool cleaner at a really great price. You may need to cut out the venturi intake to match up better with your pump pressure and to allow it to clean your pool in a more systematic way, but you'll be impressed with what the little thing can accomplish in a half-day or so.

Highly-recommended pool-cleaning TOOL! Highly-discouraged as a "toy" using any criteria.

UPDATE (13 Apr 2010): The Wanda the Whale cleaner comes with soft vinyl "feet" that allow it to move around a pool without damaging a liner. To use it in a fiberglass or cement pool, these feet should be replaced with cork feet that will provide a better grip, and wear longer than the standard vinyl feet. These feet can be ordered from Hayward but are available at any decent pool supply store that sells Hayward products. If you have this device - or plan to buy it - and will use it in a fiberglass or cement pool, be sure to replace the four "feet" to get the best performance of this unit.
With the proper cork feet, this wonderful little cleaner does a fabulous job keeping my fiberglass pool sparkling clean (it even cleans the side up to three feet from the bottom) - at a price that is dramatically less than typical automatic pool cleaners.

Hayward CL220 Off-Line Automatic Pool/Spa Chemical Feeder Review

We purchased this as a replacement to the exact model we had attached to our pool. We purchased our home a few years ago and it has an existing in ground pool and had this chlorinator attached to it. I believe it just failed due to exposure and probably age. We live in the Pacific NW and we have very wet weather most of the year, and since this is primarily made of plastic, it just didn't fare too well. We already had our lines plumbed in the filtration system, so it was a snap to install, and all of the parts and instructions come with it (which I don't think is mentioned in the ad on Amazon). This was the best price I could find on this chlorinator and I wanted to get the same kind since the other one did such a great job of keeping our pool sanitized. We have a fairly large pool (about 27,000 gal). At times we needed to turn up the heat on algae, etc., the dial was a snap...just open it up full blast. This is a very reliable product. I wasn't willing to pay about the same price for a no-name product. Get it, you won't be sorry!

I get quite a bit of debris in my pool so use this on a weekly basis. The frame is very sturdy plastic and looks like it will last a long time, ditto for the mesh. The design of the frame is such that scraping leaves on the bottom of the pool is pretty easy. Somehow the taper on the front of the frame makes it easy to get under the leaves. Not sure why it works so well but it does. Good investment over the cheapo skimmers you usually see at the pool supply stores.

This vinyl repair kit works great.I actually used it on my waterbed.I got my first box of this stuff years ago when I had a hole in my pool.Shortly thereafter, I popped my waterbed and used this on it.You can leave the water in the bed...just apply the glue to the round-cut patch and stick it on...hold a couple minutes...release.The patch stays on for many years.I bought my waterbed matress in 1994 and it has a few patches now...16 years later.My oldest patch has probably been stuck on there for about 10 years or more.The box comes with a big metal can of the glue with a built-in applicator.It also comes with giant sheets of vinyl.There are "pool blue" sheets and some clear sheets of vinyl (great for my gray matress).I stamped a few round patches out of the vinyl sheets so that I can have some pre-cut ones ready for any disasters that may happen (leaking waterbed...not good).The box of goo and stuff lasts for several years.Anyway...I love it...just love it. :o)

This filter was here when I purchased my home 10 yrs. ago.The valve spring is metal.It rusts and eventually breaks causing you to have to buy the entire valve.I used to be able to take my old valve in and the pool store would knock out a pin and just replace the spring.I would also have to replace the gasket which is expected.Now I have to buy the entire valve assembly every couple years at a cost of over $100!No reason they need to make the part this way.Also one of the holes for screwing the fitting on stripped.

Ok....needed replacement filters.One thing about these filters (as well as ANY other filter cartridges, I found out) is that it will not filter fine silt while you are vacumming up the bottom of your pool.(This consists of dead algea, tree/plant pollen, etc.)We had some branches overhanging the pool and had them removed.In the process....fine dirt and debis went into the water and settled on the bottom of the pool.When vacumming.....you could see this fine silt coming back into the pool via the output from the filter.THe filter caught most of the stuff....but not all. A day later...the stuff settled...and again....vacumming would just go through the filter and back in the pool....clouding it up."No chemicals will work"...the pool guy said."You have to empty the pool".Well....all I did was disconnect the output hose from filter pump from the side of the pool and layed it on the ground.I then vaccummed the pool...and all the silt and debris went on the ground instead of back in the pool.I only lost about an inch of water....as it only took about 5 minutes....and the result was night and day.A simple solution to a problem that was bugging me for over a week.

Intex Easy Set 15-Foot-by-36-Inch Round Pool Set Review

After reading every positive and negative review I could find on this pool, my husband and I decided to give this pool a try.We went over all the complaints, from treating the pool, putting a cover on the pool, and the most important thing is making sure the ground is level. So I will pass on a few tips that can help you the future pool buyer be aware of. The first thing that is the hardest part and can be a bit of a pain. You should measure out the diameter of pool and go around placing a level on a brick (or something that won't be warped) work your way through out thecircle and check to see how level your ground is. If you need to put down sand or something to make the ground as level as possible I would do it. It took my husband 2 hrs to get this done. Next we laid out a ground cover, we were really not sure if we needed this or not.Then came the pool, and using a small air compressor (not a bike pump like the video shows) it took 45 min. to completely fill the ring. You must fill ring to the point where there are no more wrinkles in it. Then we did as the video says, to remove wrinkles in the bottom of pool. With 2in of water in the pool, my husband started from the center on hands and knees pushing wrinkles to the outer edges. Then filled the pool the rest of the way, and put the cover on it when we were done. The next day we had a bad rainstorm, and when it cleared up there were leaves and dirt all over the cover. After pulling the cover back finding a clean pool, that was a plus. We found a couple of pluses to the ground cover. If you put a bucket of water next to the ladder you can wash dirt off your feet and not bring it into the pool, and when you come out of the pool you can step on the cover and not wet ground from where the kids have been splashing water out. As for chemicals, you do need them. Buy a tester, or take your water to be tested. Get a floating chlorine dispenser, clearifier, and algaecide. We haven't used the last two yet, but you never know. So as a overview of the pool. You will get close to 15' across on the top if your ground is level and you will be able to get the 36" if your ground is level. Add more air the next day to the upper ring since sun expands the vinyl some. Spend the extra money to get a pool cover, it will save on time wanting to get in the pool instead of fishing things out. I know I have done a lengthy review, but I hope this information has helped you, and saved you a little time looking around as I have at everyone elses complaints. It took my husband and I 8hrs from start to finish. My husband and I enjoy our pool, but not as much as our 2 kids.So the extra work was worth it...

Intex Krystal Clear 15-Foot Round Pool Cover Review

Bottom line, it's a pool cover that does work when it's not windy.It's very lightweight and easy to install the first time.I could have easily done it myself, but decided to have my wife help and it went on in about three minutes.It's a light blue color and floats on top of the water with holes spaced throughout to help rain water drain through.The only downfall I've noticed so far is the lack of tiedowns.Instead of being able to tie it to the frame of the pool, you can only tighten it around the sides with a single rope that doesn't hold snugly like in the picture shown.When you get any kind of wind above a few mph, the wind catches the pool cover and lifts it off the pool frame and you end up with a pool cover sitting at the bottom of your outdoor pool.When this happens, it is very hard to put back on because the water weighs the pool cover down and it's almost impossible to put on by yourself.

I ended up having to reinforce parts of the pool cover with duct tape about every six feet and then cut a small hole where I put a rope through to help tie it down.Once I did this in about 7 different spots, I had no issues with the wind flipping the cover off the pool.This feature should have been intergrated into the pool cover design.

If you want to keep the cover clean when not being used, I suggest buying a 30-gallon trash can, undoing the rope, and then pulling it directly into the trash can to keep dirt and grass off of it while not in use.

Pentair K50600 Kreepy Krauly E-Z Vac Suction-Side Above Ground Pool Cleaner Blue/White Review

I have had many of these suction side Pool Vacuums in the past 15 years. Out of all of them this one is easy to maintain and seems to be made of robust materials. It does not get stuck on ladders and most of all it doesn't get leaves caught in the inlet causing it to stall. I have not had to pull it up to clear the inlet for any reason yet. The in line regulator allows me to hook it up directly to a secondary suction line I installed for easy hookup and storage. I can turn on the valve to full flow and the unit runs consistantly. It comes with everything you will need to hook up to the pool side strainer. There is a diverter that comes with it to prevent the return water from pushing the hose around, but I have not had to use it. It seems to get everywhere without having to divert the return water at all. But you have it if you choose to use it.

I was way disappointed in the filter that came with my pool as it was horribly underpowered last year.We had trouble finding a replacement last year during the season and I stumbled upon this one.It works GREAT.Upon ordering, I received it in about four days.It turned over the pool in no time and the water was sparkling with just a half day's run time.The previous filter had been on for two days at a clip and would not handle the pool.The only problem I had with this pump is the picture is not accurate.The picture shows a larger pump with the medium canister separate from the pump; that was a big selling point for me.This is a single canister with the pump inside and under the filter medium.I would have ponied up the extra $30 for the larger pump had I known.I was UPSET upon receiving it, as I felt I had been duped, but its performance has been exceptional.I would still buy the larger one for my pool (~14'round x 33" deep) if only to save on the operating costs.Other than that however no complaints!

Assembly only took about an hour with a bunch of kids running around and rushing me. I didnt even have to watch the dvd that came with it to figure it out. I'm female & 4' 11". Got it filled with 2 garden hoses in about 8 hours. I did put carpet under it just in case there were small pebbles I might have missed. I put it on concrete instead of grass and the ground is slightly unlevel, but pool is holding up fine. After a few days of pool use and hardly any chemicals since I was still waiting for them to be delivered, the water got a little cloudy. As soon as I received my checmicals kit, I shocked it with 2/3 cup of chlorine and added PH minus to bring it to the right level. After just 5 hours, the pool now looks nice & clean again except for the leaves that fell to the bottom which I will vacuum with my automatic pool cleaner. The vacuum given with the pool is really cheap and hard to use for me since I am petite, so I bought an automatic cleaner which is $[...] at "[...]", but it's going to save me a lot of time and aggravation. The ladder is narrow and is also a bit shaky, but it does hold up just fine also. This is the 1st time I've ever left a review, but I thought it was neccessary since there are a lot of people who complain that it is hard to setup and keep up. I am the laziest person in the world and I've managed to keep it up. That's just how easy it is. Hope this review helps.

I bought this pool, laid it out on my level concrete slab, smoothed the floor, inflated the ring fully and filled it up.About halfway through the filling, at one spot, instead of lifting the wall, the water went over the top.Drained it, shifted it around a bit, and filled it again.Same problem.Shifted it a third time, same problem again.I don't even want to think about how much water I went through.Called customer service, who first cut me off.When I called back, the rep went through a litany of things that I must have done wrong.After I debunked each "blame the customer" response, they offered to e-mail me a warranty form, which they would review and, if they found it credible, they would then send me a new liner.This is a one-piece pool - I have no idea how you would replace the liner only, but they promised to send me "detailed instructions."I told them I wanted my money back.They offered to send a new liner.I told them that wasn't good enough.They offered to send me a new liner.I asked for a supervisor.They hung up on me.I am perfectly willing to believe I got a lemon and that as a rule the product is as advertised, but the customer service experience has turned me off entirely and I cannot emphasize enough that you SHOULD NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT OR ANY OTHER PRODUCT FROM THIS COMPANY.The customer is always wrong with them, and I'll never recoup the $$ nor be able to replace the water I wasted today.Avoid at all costs.

Intex Ultra Frame 24-by-12-Foot-by-52-Inch Rectangular Pool Set Review

Purchased for $[...] including shipping. Was a bit unsure at first about the quality/durability at this price. It is now set up and in use and all my concerns were unfounded. This is a relatively new pool design and it is really ingenious. Assembly is straightforward, instructions quite clear, no missing parts and the fit and finish were excellent. Really exceeded my expectation honestly. Best for a family with kids who want to get a fairly large pool up very quickly that should last 5 - 10 years with proper care. Everything needed is included in this package and the pump, filter and chorine generator are adequate for the pool size. The whole pool is assembled with not bolts or screws. You will need blocks to level with the ground for each leg and this can take a couple of hours to do. I would suggest 2 2x6x16" boards side by side rather than patio blocks. Cheaper, more durable, easier to set and easier on the vinyl retainers. At this price I would really be surprised if anyone would be disappointed unless they just didn't understand the different types of pools. I am updating this review after owning the pool for two seasons. I noticed that people are complaining about difficulty taking the pool down for the winter. The simple solution is don't!!! There is no reason to take it down. Just make sure you reomoved the valves and fittings from the side of liner, remove the interior plugs (leave the exerior caps on), and cover it. This will drain the pool a few inches but you just fill it up in the Spring. Whatever wear and tear you think you are saving by trearing it down for the Winter is misguided. The pool can easily withstand the cold weather is closed as indicated above. It is much harder on the liner and frame to take it down with all the prying it off the frame (which would get scratched and eventually rust then) and dragging it around. I hope this helps someone avoid a lot of hard, discouraging work for nothing. I would also strongly suggest getting a sand filter for the pool too. It will save you a lot of time and trouble keeping it clean. Another trick it to make a "bottom drain" by using a 3x3x2" or 3x3x1 1/2" PVC tee with PVC drain grates glued into each 3" end and a hoe barb fitting in the small hole. You can then connect this to the inlet and pull water from the bottom which works better for opening the pool. Once it is clear you can probably just stick with the skimmer for the season.

Intex Ultra Metal Frame Pool w/ New Child Safety Barrier Ladder - 18' x 52" complete set Review

We looked at getting a "real" pool but couldn't justify the cost.This arrived quickly and was complete.We did pay the extra to have the site prepared, we have a pretty good slope to our yard and really did not like the idea of all of that digging.Once the water compacted the soil, there is still a very minor dip at one end, only about one inch difference total but enough to notice with the water level.I personally don't think that is possible to have dirt completely level.Be sure to check for stones, even a few inches down from the surface.The weight of the water will accent these bumps pretty well.
I had read other reviews that said it was a pain to put up and with three small kids, we opted for a pool installer to set it up.Wish we hadn't.It was Lincoln logs, easy as pie to put together.You definitely need two or more people though.The pieces fit together easily but snugly, especially once the water started going in.The kids have a tendency to hang on the sides as they adjust goggles and whatnot, but it is fine.We did upgrade the ladder to one with a bigger platform and a gate for the kids' safety.
The pump is wonderful.We had a 12' round with the most pitiful pump the year before.We had algae and sediment problems all summer.It was a serious pain.This pump actually moves a lot of water.I had purchased a used PoolFrog system from Ebay and put that in line with the pump.One mineral cartridge a season, and one BacPac every 6 weeks, and I swear that I never had to add a single thing all summer.The water was clear and beautiful every day.
The cleaning kit that came with pool works great too.The skimmer and vacuum really get the sand and grass off the bottom.It never looked bad until I was done sweeping, then I looked at what it picked up.Yuck!I had to sweep about two or three times over the season, simply because of grass stuck to feet and things.
Honestly, we love it.It is big enough for several kids and a few adults, it isn't obnoxious blue, and I get to spend more time IN my pool, than MAINTAINING my pool.
Don't follow the enclosed directions for winterizing.You will crack the plunger valves like we did.A cheap fix though, $30 for two new valves and it is as good as new.We live in NE Ohio and left it up for the winter with a chemical kit in it before and it was fine.
The solar cover that comes with it is sad.Upgrade to a bubble one.
That's it.
We love it.Couldn't be happier.

We live in Florida and have had this pool in use for four months.We really enjoy it and use it daily.It took about two hours to set up on a concrete pad we had poured for it.The instructions for setting up and operating the pool were clear and correct.It looks very nice and the quality seems excellent for the price.The chlorine generator/salt-water system works perfectly.Except for the initial salt and a few adjustments to keep the PH balanced, we have done nothing to the water which is sparkling clear.The water feels nice on the skin and there is no chlorine smell.The water has a barely noticeable salt taste, but swimming underwater with eyes open causes no irritation or redness.The included skimmer and vacuum system both work very well.The volleyball net that comes with the pool is very well made and is a nice addition to the pool, especially for our grandkids.The pump, which was very quiet initially, has gotten louder, but it still works fine and the noise is not really loud enough to be an issue.This may be unique to our particular pump, but is mentioned because it is the only complaint we have had with any of it so far.We plan to take it down when the water gets too cool to enjoy.This may sound like a lot of work, but it is a clever system that is easy to assemble.Winterizing a permanent pool and getting it ready again for the next swimming season is a fair amount of work and chemical expense also.We have had above and in-ground pools previously and this seems like a good idea.If there are storage or reassembly problems, I will update this review next year.

Intex Recreation 58484E "Inflatable" Family Swim Center Pool 120"x72" Review

I've had this pool for two summers, and I just love it as a place to soak in the sun and cool off. I opened it up on my brick patio, filled it with air using a portable pump that I had from my indoor air mattress, smoothed out the bottom, and began filling with water. Last year I often only filled the pool to a depth of about 4 inches so that I could lie on the bottom without water getting in my ears. This year, I figured out that my Spring Float could be used to float in the pool! Close your eyes and you could be in a huge pool on vacation!!

The pool holds about 350 gallons at its fullest. (Note: dimensions given are to the outside of the pool and do not indicate its volume.) I have to dump the pool every week because it attracts mosquito larvae and other floating things! I use a kitchen strainer to remove leaves in between refillings. The pool has a convenient drain at one corner. However, I also figured out how to use my garden hose to easily drain some of the water to a nearby tree. That helps me feel that the water is not wasted when I have to dump it.To clean it, I just quickly rub a small towel on all of the bottom and bottom rings, and then hose it out upside down and refill.

This year, the pool has developed a slow leak in the bottom ring. I'm not surprised because I stored it hanging over some equipment in my garage and I was sure the cat would have clawed it during the winter! It may have developed the leak when I filled it one cool morning and then the day warmed up quickly. Heat may have expanded the air and caused a leak in a seam. I don't know, but I suggest you fill it at the hottest part of the day, just to be safe.

By the way, the people in the pool in the picture must be from some tribe of miniature people, because I feel much larger than that in the pool! I feel like I take up most of the length of the pool. I think two teens or average-sized adults like me could sit at opposite corners and stretch out and visit.

Intex 15' X 36" Easy Set Pool Only Review

You can't get more for your money than one of these pools, period. If it lasts 2 or 3 seasons so what. I replaced an Aqua Leasure after 2 or 3 with an Intex 15X42. Both worked very well. The sides of the Intex are a little more upright so you have more usable area inside the pool which I like. This makes the sides a little less stable but even with 9 year olds jumping over the sides you don't lose any or hardly any water unless they a couple of them lay on the upper air ring and try to push it down. The Intex and Aqua are both very sensitive to level ground. Mine is on the patio concrete which slopes away from the house for rain run off purposes. Even this causes considerable uneveness in the water level. I added some carpet pieces to the "low side" just under the outside edge. Helped a little I think. Again, so what. Water is full on one side a few inches low on the other. No one but me even notice. But don't try to set up on more slope than I'm discribing. Filter works fine. Skimmer pole is very sturdy. Ladder works fine and does not rust for some reason like the Aqua Leisure did. I use clorine strips to test water. Just dip and read. Very easy. Be sure to keep clorine level up. I added clorine after tester showed white or none. Wrong, add before clorine goes to zero level or you will get dark emerald green swamp water as a surprise one day. Triple clorine or so solved problem. Leslie pools were very helpful and refused to sell me more expensive fix I was demanding."Just try the extra clorine first, sir". Intex comes with nice cover too. Helps keep pool clean, but if dirty you can do two things. Put garden hose in pool with a weight on the end and run water to fill the hose. Turn off and remove from hose bib and take quickly to lower ground setting up a siphon. Get in pool and "vacume" up the dirt with slow even strokes. On a hot day, if you like to keep a clean pool, very pleasurable job. Oh, before the vacume get in and run around the pool creating a spinning vortex or what ever you call it. In 30 minutes or more the dirt will consentrate on ridges in the bottom. (hard not to have some)
Setup is of course much longer than the 15 minutes or so advertized. The reason is because it is a little hard to spread the pool out evenly. The warmer the weather the better to soften the plastic. And once you get a inch of wate in the pool it becomes VERY heavy and hard to change. Use the plastic tarp for sure so you don't slide the pool on concrete or something abrasive. Infact try not to slide the pool at all. Lift and fold instead. I had to move the pool once this year (Wifes idea)folded and placed on piano mover (lowboy with casters). Left in the sun and when I went to move it, sides had fallen down and were scraping on concrete for about 10 ft of travel. Yup, three holes.(Wifes fault) Used the hole patch stuff from the inside and no leaks. Here in southern Cal I keep it up for maybe 4 month per year. After that kids don't seem to use it and water is not near as warm. My child loves it, neighbors love it. Neighbor put in pool so it got lots less use this season but they still come over to both houses. I paid $210 at Leslies Pools in Fontana CA location (big selection)Have seen them less and 50% higher other places. These are real pools by the way. You'll want to spend a little time with them cleaning and checking clorine, using filter etc. But after 4 months my pool is in the garage waiting for next year and there "real" pool is in need of a pool boy all year with all the other costs. Ok, their pool looks nicer with all that concrete and faux rock and plants and lighting. But for $200 bucks this pool is a deal. If I have the time I'll try to upload some video later.

12' x 30" Family Size Metal Frame Pool Set (with Filter Pump and DVD) Review

We have the 12'X 36", which is almost the same size, and are extremely pleased with it. It is a lot of pool for the money!
The exterior white pipes are a sturdy metal that interlock with each other and slip through a very strong vinyl casing around the top of the heavy vinyl blue pool itself. Since we already had a level spot from previous pools, it took only an hour or so, for my children to assemble it themselves, with their 14 yr. old brother. As many people have stressed on other pool reviews, YOU MUST MUST have a level site and this can take lots of work, so don't expect to just open it and start assembling. Once the pool was filled with water, I was surprised by how much more solid it seemed than our previous Easy set and simple set pools had been. It's like there's some kind of dynamic balance between the metal frame and the heavy vinyl pool wall and all the water. My son insists it is superior to our old pools.
An important note is that this pool is truly 12 feet across the top, unlike the easy and simple set ones that measure 12 feet on the bottom diameter but far less, closer to 9+ feet across the top, and this pool can be filled up to 90% of its sidewall height. Our old easy set pool was supposed to be filled only to 80%, so when you compare this pool with those kind, remember that this one has more usable swimming area and depth.
This kind of pool can not be winterized and left up in climates where the winter temperatures drop below freezing, so keep that in mind. We live in the northeast of the US, so pools are useful at most from approximately Memorial Day to shortly after Labor Day, and we think that inexpensive above ground pools are economical. Also, we have found that the more expensive chemical testing kits, like the ones at Walmart for $12.97, that test for for at least five things, are a good investment, even for small pools. If you don't add stabilizer (cyanuric acid) and keep your ph steady, you will spend too much on chemicals overall. I wasted lots of chlorine over the years before I realized that. Small pools are economical but the chemical maintenance is more challenging than it might seem. I looked into Bacquacil (a non-chlorine sanitizing system, that is not as tricky to test and manage as a chlorine system) and was told by one pool dealer that it might clog up cartridge filters in small pools, but the website for Bacquacil says you can use it with this kind. We are going to try that.
Also, our pool came with a well made ladder, noticeably better quality than our previous pool sets, and had a lightweight pool cover and a small pool skimmer and vacuum. These small vacuums work on whats called a "venturi" effect. Not as efficient as the kind in big pools. Just make sure that you put a big fresh container of water in front of the ladder and make the kids rinse off their feet before going in.
