SmartPool ChlorEase Above Ground Saltwater Chlorinator Review

I bought this device last summer.Being skeptical, I really read into it and reluctantly decided to give it a shot.I have followed the instructions to the "T" and always kept my water chemistry in the recommended range per the manufacturers instructions.I also followed the recommended cleaning and maintenance per their instructions.It worked great last summer, BUT not this summer.

I never plugged the unit up until I had all of the water chemistry to their standards, which took a while this year.When I plugged the unit in, it began to bubble, as it should, so I thought everything was okay.It never created enough chlorine this year, even though I had it running 24 hours a day.It finally stopped working all together about half-way through the summer.Upon my inspection of the device, I found the transformer that powers the device had melted its housing!

I called the manufacturer and they told me to send it in so that they could look at it and see what was wrong with it.Two weeks after returning it to them (my cost) I got notice from them that the device was supposedly caked up with a bunch of calcium.They told me that because it broke due to my failure to maintain it correctly that I would have to pay $100 to get it replaced by them!I told them that it wasn't that way when I put it in the box because you could see the platinum plates clearly (I would have cleaned it first if it would have been caked up, but it wasn't).They told me that I was wrong, that it was caked up inside, but you can easily see right through the device and I KNOW it wasn't like that!I told them that I had always maintained it like they said to and that I had just cleaned it about two weeks before I figured out that it had stopped working.She then changed her story to say that the ONLY reason that their transformers melt like that is because they weren't maintained correctly.She would not even admit that there was the possibility that the transformer could have just messed up on its own.

I tried to get them to replace it under their warranty, but they refused to stating that it was all my fault!I finally just told them to send it back to me the way it was so that I could try to get it replaced by the credit card company that I bought it with and they said that they would gladly send it back to me, but that I had to pay $15 to have them ship it back to me!So not only did they call me a liar about maintaining it and not stand behind their warranty, but they expect me to pay to ship the broken unit twice!

This device did do what it was supposed to, and I was actually a big proponent of it.I even recommended it to several people, but I would not recommend this item at all now knowing what type of people are running the company.

The item arrived on time and intact. The reason I rate these tubes as a three is because they are not the best quality I've purchased.I bought these because of there size. I couldn't find them locally.When I got them and unpacked them they were in great shape.As I unplugged them (using a pair of pliers) the plug was so tight that when it finally came out it tore the vinyl around the red plug and rendered the tube useless. Out of five tubes this happened twice. I filled the tubes 1/2 full or less to allow for expansion when they froze and one of them developed a leak (prior to freezing)at a seam. If you absolutely must have these particular tubes treat them like a new born baby.Be extremely gentle handling them and keep them covered if possible.

Very good item. I would definitely follow instructions from Polaris (as I have done by purchasing two bags), let the bag dry before trying to empty the contents. Blue Pearl Robotic In-ground Pool Cleaner Review

I live in Miami and I purchased the Blue Pearl about 6 months ago for my in-ground 15 X 30 gunite pool. I use it one to two times a week. I was apprehensive about spending this much money for a pool cleaner, especially when I couldn't find any kind of consistent positive reviews for robotic cleaners in general.
But, even though my pool looks perfect, it is old and plumbing for it has always been marginal. Which makes vacuuming slow with not enough suction to run a typical automatic pool cleaner. So I was forced to consider a more expensive robotic cleaner.
Overall, I have been very happy with my decision to purchase the Blue Pearl. I have gotten plenty of use out of it without any problems and it does a really great job of cleaning if you use it regularly. It has never hung up on the ladder or the steps. It goes to the surface and turns around and goes back down the wall. It will clean my pool in about 1.5-2.0 hours but will shut itself off after 3 hours. To minimize wear and tear, if I am around, I will turn it off when the pool is clean. You are then supposed to let it set for at least 10 minutes to let the motor cool before removing the cleaner. You are also not supposed to leave the cleaner in the pool indefinitly I guess to prevent water getting past the motor seals. The only hassle is cleaning the filter bag which takes about 5 minutes but is still much less than the time to clean the pool your self.
I am sure it is made by the same people that make Aquabot (the warranty address is the same) and most of the components if you look at parts schematics are identical.
I wasn't impressed with quality control however. When I first put my Blue Pearl in the pool, it simply didn't move. I took it out and found that the drive belt and one of the gears wasn't installed correctly. I took it apart, it was a bit of a hassle but easier than returning it, and reassembled it correctly. It then worked perfectly, much to my relief. Still, it shows that company does not test run their products after assembly.
For the average home owner, I see no reason to spend more for some of the other fancier robotic cleaners. This one works great and I would have to say, I would get the Blue Pearl again. Check around as prices vary widely.

Summer Escapes Type C Filter Cartridge with Chlorinator Review

For any of you who are searching for a cartridge filter to fit a 15X36 Quickset Pool, this is the one. The Summer Escapes is the actual name of the pool. It is a little confusing as the box the pool comes in refers to the pool as a Quickset Pool. Anyway, it is very hard to find a Type C filter cartridge on-line. Here it is. Although, a little pricey. After ordering, I found you can order from the manufacturer for as little as 5.00 a filter.

Dolphin Diagnostic Robatic Pool Cleaner Residential Review

I purchased my Dolphin Diagnostic four years ago at our local Leslie's. I had a Kreepy Krauly which worked fairly well but, since my pool has only one skimmer inlet, the surface wouldn't get adequately skimmed when the KK was being used (even with the KK skimmer plate which allowed for some skimming while vacuuming). While we don't have many trees in West Texas, any that are shed seem to end up in my pool ;-)

I have been completely satisfied with the Dolphin. In the four years I have owned it I have needed only two repairs -- the first about 2 years ago was done under warranty and required sending the Dolphin to a repair station. This winter my Dolphin stopped moving and I tracked (pun intended) the problem to a worn drive track. I was able to fix this myself after ordering the correct parts.

While not having many trees, West Texas does have a lot of dust and wind. Prior to the Dolphin it was a battle to keep the pool clean but now it remains sparkling. I don't know why the previous two reviewers have had such problems, but mine covers the entire pool without difficulty. You do need to pay attention to the flow in the pool since that can affect the Dolphin's cleaning pattern. I tend to run it at least every other day throughout the year since we don't close our pool for the winter.

I've noticed two fringe benefits to the Dolphin. First, the agitation from the upward stream from the pump (especially when it is at the top of its climb of a wall) helps move surface debris and the skimmer is more effective. Second, since the collection bag microfilters the water, I only have to backwash my filter about one tenth as often as previously. This saves time, work, water, and chemicals.

Four years ago I paid about $850 for the Dolphin. This is my 5th season of use. Amortized at less than $200 per year this has been a great investment for me. My only regret is not having spent the extra money for the model with remote control. Sometimes there is an area - usually at the shallow end - that I want to clean first.

O.K., you do have to clean the bag but that is not much of a chore. I just dump the debris in the trash and then spray the bag with a hose to remove the dirt. Actually, there are disposable bags available and I did purchase some to use in the winter but they are rather expensive so I prefer the bag cleaning route.

I have recommended the Dolphin to friends and I would buy another.

Summer Escapes 18 x 48 Round Pool with 1000 GPH Skimmer Filter Review

Don't be fooled by this pool. It looks like an Intex pool; however, this pool made by GenFoam is junk. We had an Intex pool for 5 yrs and never had a problem until it developed too many leaks to fix. So we bought a new one. We set up the pool (easy to do), and discovered 10 leaks all near the top half of the pool. We drained the pool and took the liner back. One month later the hose cracked. (We only had to replace the Intex hoses twice in 5 yrs.) Two months after buying the pool the pump broke. Got a new pump from Genfoam and one week later it wouldn't work. This was in September and I was told to call back in March because they don't manufacture pool products from September thru March. (This wouldn't be so bad if we didn't live in the south where the swimming season goes through November.) It is now March 3rd and after ordering another pump Genfoam tells me that I can expect the pump anytime from March through August! This particular pump is attached to the pool wall and in-wall skimmer so you cannot use any other pump. Long story short-don't waste your money. BUY AN INTEX POOL.

Hayward DC300 KingRay In Ground Disc Pool Cleaner Review

I had another brand for many years .I had repaired it several times,but , finally the plastic body was going. It had many external parts.This Hayward D C 300 was totally encased and streamline.So I purchased it. First the directions are semi-useless.No direction on attaching the floor disc to the motor , finally I just pulled it over the end to attach hoping it would not tear. Then there is a weight to attach , that I understood but it is a mild help.Then a black thing to put someware on the line ?It is to turn left or right to increase or decrease flow .directions ask for 7 lbs. preasure the pump does 20 to 25 lbs. preasure .this toy is to correct that .Yes it is piss poor. Then 2 inserts to cut off water flow to vac.Does not explain where they go and they fit to nothing. Moving right along, I called Hayward and they said you have to call service durring working hours. So I went to a pool place , they are not thrilled to assist when you purchase on the net. but they sold me another valve that fits the line.I installed it and it works. OK it works like a rusty wheeled lawn mower. If it is ajusted to strong it hugs the pool floor and will not move. close the valve it moves at a snail pace.close it more it stops. I do not use catalogs because I hate having to returne things. I have had better sucess with the net , untill now.

Baracuda G3 Automatic Cleaner Review

We'd had a Haywaward Pool Vac for many years, but the constant replacing of parts was costing us over $100 a year.

The Baracuda cleans okay, but it is not as good as the Hayward was since it does not seem to hit all areas of the pool. A relative has the same Baracuda cleaner and the same problem, so it is not something with our setup or pool, it is a cleaner fault. Again, though, the cleaning is okay with the Baracuda - it is better than nothing.

The real fault in the Baracuda G3 (and presumably G4) is that the cleaner gets stuck on the main drain if the main drain is an anti vortex raised drain. Rounded main drain covers are available for purchase (at about $60 each) to help the cleaner go over the main drain, but many people have had problems with those products staying down over the drain.When I called Baracuda for help, they admitted they were aware of this issue. They said it was due to my 'non standard' pool design, but my 'non standard' pool design is soon to be required by building code, so Baracuda should get their act together and come up with a solution.

Also annoying is the fact that Baracuda is aware that they have issues with certain drain covers, but NO WHERE in their literature did they say that. In other words, let the people buy it and then find out it does not work right in their pool.

Because it gets stuck randomly, and I do not babysit my pool cleaner, the return period had passed by the time I realized the problem. Baracuda would not help, so I am stuck with a cleaner that does not work according to Baracuda's advertising. The cleaner is still under warranty, but they say it works as designed, so they won't help.

We did our homework about this pool cleaner before purchase, but this problem was not publicized anywhere. So, to others, if you have or plan on getting raised, anti vortex, main drains (and you should, for safety reasons), AVOID the Baracuda G3 and G4 cleaners.

Note that our previous Hayward Pool Vac, in our same alleged 'non standard' pool, never had this problem. I guess the extra money in maintenance is worth it for a product that does not need babysitting.

Even if you don't have that type of drain, I'd avoid Baracuda products just due to poor customer service.

The product was shipped fast. But what I didn't like that it is cheaply made, the plastic was way thinner than the originial, the gaskets were a joke, very thin and then they gave you pointed screws instead of like the original that had blunt end screws; incase it slipped and fell into the pool that it wouldn't poke your liner and cause a hole. I had to retighten and retighten because we have had more problems with it dripping than what we ever had with the one before.Speaking from experience I would not buy this product again or recommend to anyone. However, it is installed and we are hoping that the product doesn't fail all the way until I get another one from some place else.

I have a swim spa that is 1600 gallons so I was out looking for an inexpensive product to use to break down organics. This product works good and does what it advertises. I just wish I looked at the size compared to how much you have to use, this bottle is 16 oz and you have to use 1 oz per 100 gallons, so I had to use the entire bottle for one application. The instructions on the bottle also recommend using it once or twice a week, luckily I get away with using it less often than that because of amount of use. It is a great product for clearing up the water in your spa!

Pool Pump (RP 600) Review

After less than a year of ownership, the parts are failing.The hoses are breaking down and cracking.The large O-ring for the filter housing is also beginning to stretch and no longer fits properly.It does the job, but if it isn't set in place perfectly, the housing leaks.

I also do not believe the pump circulates as much water as advertised.Even cleaning the filters out at least every other day and replacing them every 2 weeks.

I'm disappointed.Now I am looking for either replacement parts or a complete replacement.

The Slime Bag Pool Fill Water Filter Bag Review

This didn't really live up to the hype for me.
My Pentair cartridge filter is supposed to filter to 10 microns.
The slime bag to one micron.

After running for well over a month, the material was only slightly gray, but there was no stuff inside.
When I rinsed it as per instructions, I caught the drainage in a bucket.
It wasn't the least bit cloudy. I let it settle for a week, it was clear as can be with nothing on the bottom...

Maybe I just have nothing in my water that's betwen 1 and 10 microns.

I'm not going to bother hooking it back up.

Update 06/27/10

I did hook it back up.
I have some of the return flow from after the filter going through a garden hose to the bag in the pool.
After about two weeks, there was a definite "tinge" to the material.
I rinsed as per instructions. Again, I couldn't see anything coming off it, but the tinge went away and it was white again.

Now, every week or so, I clean the tinge off/out.
I'm not sure what it's getting, or if it's worth the minor inconvenience of cleaning it every week, but the color tells me it's
grabbing something that the filter cartridge isn't.

The Wet Set Inflatable Fun Pool with Slide and Sprayers 11' X 5' Review

We bought this product for my 4-year-old and 18-month old daughters. Hence to say that they just used it only two times and then the seam broke, in the lower portion, right by where the slide attaches to the bottom of the pool. We noticed a small hole and used the provided patch, which held up pretty good.
The third time we used it (a week later), I started to notice that the slide was overinflated in one side. What happened was that the slide detached from the bottom of the pool; on the other side (not the one which previously tore), making the pool totally useless. Thankfully, I was able to return it for a full refund at the retailer.
Very poor quality indeed for such pricey product...

I purchased the Dirt Devil Rampage for a pool approx 15' x 36' and have used it several times. It is quite light to handle, very easy to use and does a GREAT cleaning job. However before my purchase I wish I had known that:
(1) it gets "hung up" on my Hayward SPX-1048 drain covers (about 1.5" high). It becomes stuck and must be pulled off the drain cover in order to continue its work. This inhibits unsupervised cleaning and appears to disrupt the Robot's tracking of the areas it has cleaned. The solution recommended by Hayward Tech Solutions is to purchase Drain Covers (at approx $70 each). I need 2 and I am not impressed!!
(2) the Dirt Devil brand was a consideration in my purchase. I paid approx $980 for the Rampage. Upon receipt of the product I see much of the product's documentation is for the Aqua Vac Systems Tiger Shark pool robot which, I now discover, is identical to the Rampage but costs only $899. I cannot even find the Rampage product on Dirt Devils website. I feel ripped off having trusted the DD brand. I am really not clear on whose brand & product I have really purchased. I'd recommend you go with the Tiger Shark and save yourself the $80.
